I did not see Thomas in the 1899 nor in the 1901 San Francisco Directory.

Thanks again Lisa.
My information is that he died in September 1908. I wonder if the volunteer misread the death year ... or have we got two different gents here. That's hard to believe.
I'll register with Bill*** Gr**** and see what is says.

UPDATE: I did register with Bill Gr**** but it doesn't give me any more information. I shall try calling the cemetery.

I looked closely at the photo of the grave and I think the transcriber made a mistake (understandably as the number is difficult to read). The year of death IS 1908.
I changed the information on the Bill Gr**** site.

Thanks Lisa.
I have quite a lot about Thomas now.

It seems that he "had a few strings to his bow" i.e. a number of talents.
I also found information about Robert Moseley Bryce Thomas via the Newspaper link you gave me earlier. Robert compiled a huge amount of information about his extended family, including T H Slator.
I really appreciate your help.

You're welcome.

It was interesting looking, as I used to live in San Francisco and we used to visit Sonora years ago.   :)

I just received a copy of the death certificate for Thomas Henry Slator which I have (hopefully) attached.
WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF DEATH?
*
The date of birth is incorrectly listed as the same as the date of death. Thomas was 49 years 9 months and 29 days old, so his birth date we have of 29th December 1858 is correct.
His father is also listed as Thomas Henry Slator; I have only seen Thomas Slator.
His mother is only listed as M. C. Thomas.
The informant was Mildred Slator of Sonora, CA (his wife).
The deceased had resided at the place of death for 2 years and 5 months - and for 17 years and 2 months in California.
