Marriage Lookup Please 3rd June 1707 - St Helen Garstang
« on: Sunday 29 January 17 17:51 GMT (UK) »
Would someone please be able to help me with the following marriage which I fee has been transcribed wrongly as I cannot find the spouse surname anywhere else!

Marriage: 3 Jun 1707 St Helen, Garstang, Lancashire, England

William Blaikoe & Elling Jayles from Catterall
Register: Marriages 1689 - 1718, Page 85, Entry 2

All the Blacows & wives I have found up to William have been Catholic so I am presuming so is William and all his family

I feel sure this is the correct William Blacow (Blaco, Blackow etc) in my line and I am presuming his wife is Ellin but the surname Jayles seems very strange.

I am hoping these are the parents of my husbands 6th Great Grandfather Richard Blacow born 1707

I have found his baptism along with Ann (1708) , Mary (1710) & Unnamed? (1712) they were all baptised at Garstang  - but again I am sure they were brought up as Catholics

Hope someone can help me out

Many thanks in advance

Many thanks I suppose this could be a possibility but I cannot find anyone at the moment who would fit in with her age born around 1685 I am guessing - thank you though for the option

Did you get the transcription from Lancs Online Parish Clerk?
If so, you can email them to check if their transcription is correct. They will check for you and may also send you a copy of the image they worked from. They did this for me with a burial I queried.

Hi

The parish register image is on Anc* and the transcription looks to be spot on.  The surname has definitely been written as Jayles . I live in the area and it's not a surname that I have ever come across before.

Thank you for the confirmation of the surname, I have an Anc subscription and had not seen that!
