Kate or Anne Cassin? St Andrews Dublin
« on: Thursday 02 February 17 09:16 GMT (UK) »
Hello
Not sure whether I'm posting this in the right bit....I would really appreciate any advice/suggestions!
Thanks to all the rootschatters I have
Thomas Cassin marrying Sarah Carter on 24th Jan 1869.
In the St Andrews Parish Records I then have their first child b 13th Nov 1869 bap 15th Nov 1869. Going to the registrars Births records I then have Kate daughter of Thomas And Sarah b 13th December 1869 registered 25th Jan 1870 (entry 80).
So Sarah appears to have had one child then 1 month later had a second child??!!?
I know Anne existed as I have other documents relating to her, but I have nothing on Kate (and to be honest I'm not really sure where to look). Sarah and Thomas went on to have Hanna, Sarah, Patrick and Maria. Thomas' parents were James and Annie (of England) and Thomas' siblings were Patrick and James. Interestingly a rootschatter called Autobike posted that he was searching for a sibling of Kate/Anne called William but had never found anything (don't know whether that gives any clues.....as you can probably tell I'm clutching at straws)
Any help, tips, advice very gratefully received  :)

A Birth and Registering that Birth is what you have!  2 different things, same child!

Church and State!

But why 2 different names? Or are we looking at a "small drinky before popping off to register" type thing ;)
And is there anyway of proving that? (Same person....not the drinky bit  :D)

I would say same child

FTR

LINK to marriage details for Thomas CASSEN and Sarah CARTER

LINK to RC baptism of Anne CASSON in 1869 (date not recorded; also original is not on line) in St. Andrew's Church

LINK Birth of Kate CASSINS on Dec 13 1869; registered Jan 25 1870

It is not unusual to find a baptism was recorded on a date before the civil registration
There was a fine if you did not register within a short period and some people just gave a date to ensure there was no fine payable and as dates of birth did not hold the significance they do today.

Is there a civil registration for the name Anne?
It could be they just changed the name

My Grandfather's brother was baptised Joseph but civil registered Michael!

Also out of interest here is a Katherine CASSAN b. 1868 (F) Patrick and (M) Eliza CARTER at 9 Leary's Court LINK

That's Thomas' brother I think (Patrick Cassin). Anne/Kate was born at 7 Leary Place...
(Thank you though....my heart leapt for a minute as I thought you had solved it :) :))
