Mary Jane WRAY, born 1848
« on: Thursday 02 February 17 09:25 GMT (UK) »
Hello. There is a Mary Jane WRAY born Driffield district in 1848 (Sep qtr 1848, 23/41). The listing is in FindMyPast and FreeBMD. Is there any way of knowing the name of a parent without having to lodge a request for a certificate through GRO? I don't have a subscription to FindMyPast but from memory the transcriptions from the index don't usually have the parent's name. There is a Mary J WRAY who died in 1939 of a similar age, but hard to say whether it's the same. Thank you, Craig.

Driffield registration for Mary Ann Wray shows mother's maiden name as Ulliott - GRO new facility.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

There is a marriage - Driffield Registration District - December quarter 1839 where Joseph Wray and Elizabeth Ulliott appear on the same page.

Marriage Licence - dated 22 October 1839 - Elizabeth Ulliott (transcribed as Ullyott) aged 19 of Garton on Wolds and Joseph Wray aged 22.  Intended marriage venue Great Driffield.

YorkshireBMD says that the marriage took place at All Saints, Great Driffield.

Just looked again, the Mary Jane born 1848 to mother Ulliott died the next year aged 8 months.
Looks like they named another child Mary Jane in 1853.

I actually have this couple's marriage registration from GRO. According to that, they married 23 October 1839.

Yes, that's true they married on 23rd, but obtained the licence the day before = 22nd  ;)

Thanks very much. I was looking for a Mary Ann WRAY, child of Benjamin WRAY and Mary PENNOCK (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=746456.msg5936889#msg5936889). According to later records she would have been born 19 June, likely 1849, but have never found a registration. I was curious about this Mary Jane.

The Mary Janes (x2) then are their nieces.

Hello. Just so I understand the range of potential English sources better, where are these sources you reference?
