Good work, Leka! I was just about to post that I thought the mother's name was Peel. From the groindexes the only birth  for Joseph Hall in Durham and Lanchester RD in Oct - Dec 1845 gives mmn as Peil - it is showing as Peel for brother Ralph (Oct - Dec 1847).

William
Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)

I think I have William and Ann in the censuses as far as 1881 so far. It is his placce of birth that is a bit all over the place but that might be down to transcription issues. ( Age a bit variable too!)

1851 in Shincliffe
William 30 b Earsdon Northamptonshire (should be Northumberland)
Joseph 5
Ralph 4

1861 in Shincliffe
William 42 b Whitby Yorkshire ( Think it might actually be Whitley Northumberland)
Ann 39 b Jarrow (did not spot she was missing in 1851 until now!)
Joseph 15
Ralph 13
Robert 9
Maria 5
Hannah 3
Edward 0 (All born Shincliffe apart from Josph)

1871 in Shildon at Eldon Old Pit

William 54 b Whitley North' land (incorrectly transcribed as Northamptonshire)
Ann 48 b Hebron, Durham
Edward 10 b Shincliff

1881 at Eldon Old Pit Houses
William 64 b Earsdon (now an overman at colliery)
Ann 60 b Jarrow
Hannah 23 b Shincliff

Earsdon not far from Whitley (Bay) in Northumberland.

Gro indexes would appear to confirm mmn as Peel for the other children.

William
Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)

Thanks so much for your research.I am trying to fit William into my family. This is what I have so far that I know is correct.

1861 census 4 Flintoff Street Bishop Auckland
Mary HALL widow 66(Mary died in1871.death cert said she was widow of William Hall, carpet weaver)
John BLYTHE son married 34
Ann BLYTHE daughter married 33
William  BLYTHE grandson 2
John BLYTHE grandson 0

John Blythe died in 1909 and Joseph Hall was a witness in his will(living at South View Bishop Auckland so I know I have the right man)
I am trying to make a connection between Joseph Hall and William Hall
(I know that Mary Hall was not Ann Blythes mother so must be Johns mother or stepmother)
I know this sounds confusing but I have been trying to find Johns parents for 3 years and I don't want to give up!

Hi Chrissyann

How intriguing! Well it does not look like the William in my previous posts is the one you are looking for. Re Joseph being a witness on John Blythe's will it does not necessarily indicate a kinship connection - he might have just been a friend or neighbour, the surname Hall, therefore, just being a coincidence. Worth also pointing out from Millipede's post earlier in the thread that Joseph Hall's wife Hannah may also have been a Hall and so it might be worth investigating her as well.

I take it that it is John Blythe that you are really interested in. I will have a look to see if I can find anything - I do like a good mystery :).

Thanks William
Yes, it is John Blythe I'm looking for.I thought that if I found what the Hall connection was it might
unlock his earlier life but its proving difficult. There are a few John Blythes born about 1827 but I can't
pin him down. His father according to the marriage certificate was also John Blythe but no indication if he was already deceased by then.
Any help would be much appreciated
