He had a son called Samuel too in 1867, born in Masbrough, and he again, for me at least is hiding on the 1871 census.

When did Jane re-marry?  Is he under Armitage

Hi again I cannot locate a remarriage for Jane Hinchcliffe to a Benjamin Armitage,  the original marriage to Samuel Hinchcliffe would supply a lot of clues as to just who he is possibly?
Wonder what became of Susan b 15th December 1871?

As you see, 1867 Samuel's Dad passed away in 1869, thus Jane met and married Ben Armitage a few years on and at least in 1881 census kept the Hinchliffe name.

As Keyboard has said - there is no marriage between Benjamin Armitage and Jane Hinchcliffe.  She didn't keep the Hinchcliffe name - it's the children who are (rightly) surname Hinchcliffe in 1881

Sort of - it was to confirm that she was the same Jane (Hutton) who married Samuel Hinchcliffe but was now with Benjamin Armitage - no marriage to him found
