Annie Bell Wannan born Inverdovat, Fife in 1909
« on: Sunday 12 February 17 11:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi there

I've just realized that I may have posted this on the wrong Forum (Fife), since most of the subject's siblings were later Dundee connected so I'm trying here as well.

I've got a (now quite extended) post on the Canada Forum for Annie Bell Wannan who was born on 1 May 1909 at Inverdovat, Forgan, Fife to parents Robert Wannan and Janet Marshall Bell who latterly lived at 354 Perth Road, Dundee http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=764783.0

The trail has run dry in Canada on 9 Mar 1936 when I last found her crossing from Canada to the USA, for a 6 week visit to her sister Janet at 114 E/225th St., Cleveland, Ohio.  For some reason she used the forename "Patricia"

I can't find a return crossing for her - she was advised she could only stay for the six weeks - nor any mention of her in the local press associated with other members of her family, e.g. Obituaries, etc..

Is there anyone with anything further about Annie  ???

Hi Don

No, sister Janet was married on 17 April 1935 in Montréal, Québec Province, Canada, to William Thomas MacKay, a South African (1900-1972).  He died in Manteno, Kankakee County, Illinois, USA.  Her first marriage was to William Morris Carson (1895-1928)

A daughter of Robert, Winifred Syme Wannan, died at Seafield Road,Dundee on 18th July, 1839.No mention of Annie. Burial was to Vicarsford Cemetery, Newport.

Why would Annie use the name 'Patricia' on the border crossing form? Was this definitely Annie?

Hi scotmum

Thanks for connecting here.  Ten children in the family.  I have birth, marriage (where applicable) and death details for them all except Annie's death (and ? marriage) the only exception.  It seems the family may have a "plot" in Vicarsford Cemetery.  I'll have to go and have a look.

Why, indeed, would Annie use the name "Patricia"  ???   Well, there wasn't a daughter named "Patricia" in the family, and the age and entry detail to Canada tally with it being Annie, so I've no reason to doubt it's not her.

There is only of me.

So Annie/Ann/Belle is now Patricia?  So in reality she could be using any alias from a-z.

I gather she is not with her sister in 1940 US Census.

No Don, the Census just shows (sister) Janet, her husband William MacKay and their daughter Muriel.
