Hi. I'd a quick look in the censuses for this family. In 1851 & 1861 James & Margaret are in Turriff, Aberdeenshire. You can search for them on freecen & see the names of the children living with them. I went on Scotlandspeople & noted that James died in 1866 in Aberdeen. You can download a copy of his death certificate at a modest cost. Both of his parent's names should be on the certificate. In 1871 Margaret is living, with her daughter & son in law,in Aberdeen. A further search on Scotlandspeople shows that Margaret Dick nee Mortimer died in 1896. You can also view Margaret's death certificate & find out her parent's names. Hope this helps,

how certain are  you of your marriage finding i have her marrying alexander meldrum and having 2 children georgina and alexander both born 1871 with alexander landing in harrogate around 1901 and is a bank clerk.im thinking this could be right because elizabeths brother william born 1841 landed in hartlepool around 1875 and was a plasterer and harrogate is only 15 miles away from hartlepool.william was my gt gt grandfather
