1847 mother Ann Rowe other surname *complete thanks*
« on: Tuesday 14 February 17 17:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi would appreciate some help working out my relation's name, please.

This is the name, surname and maiden surname of mother part on an 1847 Landulph birth registered St Germans, Cornwall.

Ann Rowe
late? ?_?
formerly Peardon?

Rowe is her married surname and i think Peardon is her birth surname but what is the other bit, does it say late ..and does that mean widow? What is the surname in the middle?
Marks (cornwall, devon), Pennie (stirlingshire),
Robertson (perthshire, scotland), Swanston (roxburghshire, berwickshire)

Kneebone ?

"Late" is just saying that it's a former name and more recent than Peardon/Reardon

Ah i wondered what 'late' meant because the one i seen before that had an extra surname used the word 'previously'.  She was the one who registered the birth so she was still alive.

It does look like Kneebone, didn't know that was a surname.

thank you ShaunJ and Hephzibah

Was her husband William Rowe?

William Rowe married Ann Kneebone in 1832, East Stonehouse, Devon - just across the water from St Germans.

Here's an interesting one:

Ann Peardon d Ann Kneebone of Pallastreet baptised 18 Aug 1821 at Bradstone, Devon

An 1821 birth can't possibly be an 1832 marriage.

But the juxtaposition of those two surnames may be worth noting.

So was the baptism some time after the birth, was the 1832 marriage a marriage of mother Ann, or is this just a co-incidence??

Yeah, i've been unable to find her baptism.  The 1860, 1870 and 1880 census have her birthplace as Warpstow or Warbstow so i'm unsure if it's Warbstow or Milton Abbot. An added complication may be that Peardon sounds similar to lots of different surnames.

Ann died aged 80 on 27th January, 1886 at Cargreen.  I'll probably get around to ordering the death certificate to see if it can help.
