Shirley's obit has the marriage date... Aug 13, 1952 :)

Winnipeg Free Press, Oct 22, 1981, page 47.

Shirley Edith Matheson (R.N.) was born in Winnipeg on Oct 13, 1916.  She died Oct 19, 1981 at the "Health Sciences Centre".  She graduated from Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1948.   There is a lot of information in this obituary.  If you can access it from your library (or if you have a FindMyPast subscription.. through the newspaper collection), I think it would be a great help to you.  If you can't get it, let me know.

She is survived by her mother Lucy Jean Jardine.  Obit lists Shirley's children and her brothers and sisters etc.

Lucy Jean may have been a very young mother!!  Found a short death notice for Lucy Jean Jardine, died Oct 27 1996 aged 95.  If this is Shirley's Mom and she was born in 1901, she would have been about 15 when Shirley was born.   No mention in the notice about family members, so I can't be sure if she is the correct Lucy Jean.

Yes, that is the right Lucy... found a much longer obit (with photo) in the Winnipeg Free Press November 2 1996, page C11.  She was predeceased by her husband William Donald (1952), daughters Eunice (1923) and Shirley Matheson (1981), grandchildren David and Don Jardine, sisters Edith Henderson, Helen White and brother Gordon Mason.   Surviving family members are listed.

Lucy Jean was born in Douglas Manitoba on Feb 5 1901.  Parents were Rev Edwin Mason and Jean Imrie Livingston.  She went to the Normal School to get her teacher's qualifications.  She and Don were married on Sept 8 1922.  They moved to Spearhill Man in 1925 and lived there until Don died in 1952.  She taught music.  Looks like after her husband died, she taught in Stonewall and Steep Rock.

1921 census Lucy Jean Mason is with her father and sibs in Selkirk Man.  Don't see Shirley anywhere.  Perhaps Shirley's obit had the wrong birth year??

Edwin Mason 54, widower, born England, came to Canada in 1871, Presbyterian minister
Lucy J 20, father born England, mother born Ontario
Edith C 18
Helen M 15
John G 13
Dorothy M 11
