Dunfermline Street

Hi fellow Fifers

I was looking at an 1871 Census yesterday to try and decide on a (street) name that Ancestry have transcribed as LEMROCK in Dunfermline.  It was listed, as just one word, between REFORM STREET and NORTH INGLIS STREET.  My thought was it began with an "R" as it was identical to the "R" in Reform Street.

Sadly, I didn't take a print of the actual record, but I was wondering if any local could shed light on it.

Looking at the old town maps for 1854 and 1896, both show North Inglis Street and Reform Street at right angles to one-another and no other streets that look like "Lemrock" in the vicinity.

Ancestry had it as George Wansen - corrected to WANNAN - age 29 born Pitcothie, Fife (should read "PITSCOTTIE") - with his wife Jane (28) and children Morrison (3) and Margaret (2).

So a mis transcription by Ancestry, along with George's occupation as Irver Turner Factory. 

If you haven't already done so, it might be worth buying some SP credits to have a look at the address, and post a snip for others to give their interpretations if you are having problems deciphering it.
