Mottlee family- breeches makers of Peterborough in 1798
« on: Friday 17 February 17 04:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Hoping someone can help connect the dots for me here!!

I have a William Mottlee- Painter- born around 1805 place unknown who lived and died in London. I can find no evidence of his parents from his marriage or death- although a witness to his marriage in 1822 was an A. Mottlee

In the same area of London I have found a John Thomas Mottlee- dairyman- born around 1800 who according to his marriage in 1838, is the son of John Thomas Mottlee - Breeches maker- and his wife Ann, of Peterborough, Northamptonshire. I have also found John Snr and Ann listed on a trade register taking an apprentice in 1798.

I am looking for a baptism of both John Thomas Jnr and William around 1800-1805, and a marriage of John Thomas Mottlee Snr to Ann around 1797-8 (I think) in the Peterborough area.

I am making the assumption- and hoping to find proof one way or the other- that William is a brother to John Thomas Mottlee Jnr, and that they were born in Peterborough and then moved (with their parents? or as adults) to London...

Records are generally spelt MOTTLEE, but very occasionally MOTTLEY

Hoping someone can help with some missing pieces please!!
Many thanks
Kylie

Hi Sandy
Thanks so much!

That marriage looks really promising- do you know if I can find out who witnesses were?

And if this is them- I now need to find baptisms of any children to them....including hopefully William. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks again
Kylie

Thanks for the witnesses and baptisms- William and John!!
As there are 2 Williams I assume the first must have died?

As I mentioned William and John Jnr end up in London but I dont know if the whole family went although I suspect A Mottlee witness to Williams wedding is Ann.

Are there any Mottlee burials at St Johns?

Thanks so very much Sandy- This is fantastic!
Kylie
ps are the images of the marriage and baptisms avail online? that I could access??

Thanks for the help Sandy

There is baptism for Thomas Motley, son of John Thomas and Ann at Peterborough St John in 1800 and William son of John and Ann in 1802 on Ancestry.

I don't have access to see the full details at present but I had an email to say that access is free for three days, starting tomorrow, Saturday.

You can see the basic information in births by entering Motley in Last Name, John as Father, Ann as Mother and Peterborough as Keyword.

David

P.S. - sorry, I missed that Sandy had already given the baptisms but you may be able to download the images from tomorrow.
