Leavesley one name group
« on: Saturday 18 February 17 13:10 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I hope you don't mind me bothering you but did anybody see a small article asking about setting up a one name family study in recent magazines.
I saw something either in WDYTYA or FT magazine  but now can not find my copy .
I have December and February and have searched both for both magazines and nothing.
I just want a contact  and I can't believe I've lost the magazine.
Can anyone help?

Have you tried GOONS - The Guild of One Name Studies?

There's a contact there for Leavesley (and variants).

Thank you I tried that but when I click on the lady's name it just brings up a wizard for outlook express.
I'm assumong i have to be a member of Goons and log in but I'm not a member.

Hovering over her name displays (at the bottom of my screen) the link.

The email address is Leavesley@one-name.org

Thank you I tried that but when I click on the lady's name it just brings up a wizard for outlook express.
The wizard appears because that is the only email program installed on your machine, so your browser tries to use it even though you have never configured it.

You almost certainly are reading your email through a web browser, so you've never used a mail reader. Those of us who have dealt with computers a long time tend to use a separate email reader, which allows us to deal with email even when we are not connected to the internet; mail is sent and received in batches.

The link has the format "mailto:person@organisation.domain". You can usually right-click on the link and select "Copy shortcut". Then head over to your email, paste into the "To:" box, then delete the "mailto:" from the front.
The Guild website also puts things on the end of the link to pre-populate the email subject line.

Offline readers have other advantages. I got my 90-year old aunt using Outlook, because BT kept changing the way their webmail looked and worked, causing her confusion every 3 months.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Census information is Crown Copyright. See www.nationalarchives.gov.uk for details.

Hello
I'm afraid I don't understand fully what the last answer is about.I use a computer at the Library and I don't install or update any programmes.Even if I knew how and they let me I don't think I'd be confident enough to do so.
I'm not sure about reading e-mails of line.Surely that's a bit like hearing the telephone ring and deciding not to pick up but wait for the answer machine and hear a message latter in the day?
Sorry I'm just confused ,I'm not trying to be impolite.
I think you're saying- hover over the iink ,right click, then copy to my e-mail.
Is that right?

Sorry but I'm not that technical
