Alphonse Otto "Oliver" Biesterfeld

Hi

Alphonse Otto Biesterfeld was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England in 1893, the son of a German immigrant father.

He seemed to use Otto more frequently than Alphons.

He fought in WWI under the name Olivier Biesterfeld (maybe tried to drop the Otto as it was German, and he fought for the British).

I have him in 1926 on a Passenger list to St. John's, Canada, as an agent (Oliver Biesterfeld).

I can't find anything more of him in Britain.

The only thing I find in Canada is a possible burial on findagrave - O. Biesterfield, buried in Burnsland Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta in 1957, but I don't know if this is him.

Can anybody find anything for him in Canada?

"Otto" or "Oliver (Olivier)" or possibly "Alphonse" Biesterfeld.

It looks like the burial.must be him.

I notice there is a Bonnie Pearl Biesterfield also buried in Calgary, so I'm guessing this might be his wife.

There is no marriage in Britain.

Looks like the same couple - Bonny is listed in 1957

You can view the book Sandra found at "Our Roots"  very slow to load. Add Biesterfield to search
box.

Page 296 photo of Bonnie (Beckman) and  Oliver.
Page 297 Bonnie and Oliver married in June 1942, Oliver managed the hotel in Black Diamond.

Bonnie's obit from the Calgary Herald, July 25, 1970 page 37

Oliver's obit appears in the Calgary Herald as well, but I can't find an exact date of death for
him. Bonnie's obit says he died November 1957. The newspaper archives are not searchable by
name. Brute force trawling, I'm afraid. Perhaps a little incentive from this link, his obit is type L, which means 20+ lines.
