The "Farming" Pinks of Hampshire
« on: Friday 24 February 17 15:34 GMT (UK) »
I am researching the Pink family, mainly the ones who were farmers. One of the farms they lived at was Whitedell farm Hampshire, now no longer a farm. I've got back to James Pink born c.1819, married to Sarah Grant. Any info on the Pink family would be appreciated

Have you checked the Surname Interests Board to see if anybody else is researching the same family.  You will find the link at the bottom of this page under "Tools"

Hi there
I don't know if this will be of interest, but I do have a Pink member in my Buckett family tree.  A Rebecca Pink married Benjamin Buckett at Alverstoke on 2nd September 1822.  She was the daughter of Reuben Pink and Elizabeth Cable, and was born in 1804 in Botley.  Benjamin and Rebecca had nine children, William 1823 (who married Charlotte Martin on 4th April 1851) Harriet born 1826 who married William Gough.  Elizabeth, 1829; Mary 1835; Rebecca 1833, Charlotte 1836, Ellen 1841; James 1838 and John 1842.  I didn't follow up this line because it was not my direct line, but was descended from a brother (Benjamin Buckett) of my 3xgreat grandfather John Buckett.

Hi. I've looked into this and can't find a relationship with my Pinks. Many years ago I learnt from my Grandfather Leonard Pink that there were alot of Pink families in Hampshire. Mine were the farming Pinks around Fareham. He also said there was a Pink family in the jam making industry. Incidentally, when researching this that your Rebecca married Benjamin Bucker! Kind regards.

Hi Grampy1.

Do you have James/Sarahs 1841 M/C?
Does it confirm his Father was John?

JAMES Pinks christened 18 October 1818, St. Peter and St. Paul's Church, Fareham, Hampshire
Parents JOHN/SARAH
Siblings;
MARY 7 May 1820
JANE 11 Nov 1821
JOHN 6 Jan 1824

1871 Census as you know Johns Mother SARAH born c 1786 Fareham is living with them. Occp Formerly Tailoress.
1861 she is a Nurse, Widow, living with Patricia Chapman
1851 she is a Widow, visiting the Purchase Family, Occp Dressmaker
1841 age 46 living with an Elizabeth Wassell age 73

Aaah!

MARRIAGE;
29 November 1817, St. Peter And St. Paul, Fareham, Hampshire
John PINK to Sarah WASSELL**

So 1841 Sarah is likely with her Mother.

BURIAL;
JOHN Pink, 19 May 1825, St. Peter And St. Paul, Fareham, Hampshire
Age 31
(birth c 1794)
(F/S.Org)

From 1851 Census we have James's Grandmother CHARLOTTE Pink, born c 1780 Alverstoke, Widow, formerly Farmers Wife.
(indexed as Grandmother in Law, image is Grandmother)
Age is a little out I would say if she is the Mother of John c 1794
This needs more investigation.

Although I did find this on FreeREG;
JNO Pink baptised 9 April 1794, St Mary, Alverstoke
Parents JOHN/CHARLOTTE

And on F/S.Org
SARAH Wassel christening:11 March 1795, Fareham to JOHN/ELIZABETH**

I know this doesnt agree with some Trees but as no one seems to have the M/C of James Pink and Sarah Grant my info seems to add up better to me.

Also some Trees have a Son as Thomas Powell, the actual Census has him in a different Household so nothing to do with the Pinks! James would be 7 if he was Thomas's Father.

Trish :)

It looks good to me but you really need the 1841 M/C to confirm James/Sarahs Fathers names/occp's.

Trish :)
