Thanks Rosie - yes that's him. Thanks for the complete date of birth - I can't find anything on Scotland's People.
I now need to find his parents - Thomas Thomson and Margaret?, potential siblings but also Thomas's and Margaret's parentage though how I can do that without her surname is probably impossible.

Any idea why her surname isn't on the Find My Past transcription too?

Where did his year of birth and location come from?

What information do you have on James ?who did he marry and when did he die ?...Do you have him on census forms ...If he died after 1855 you can get a copy of his death certificate on Scotland's People which will give you his parents names

Hi, I have 1841 census showing James with is wife Janet (nee Cochran) and would like to head down the mail line verifying James's birth and that of his father and mother (and more if I'm really lucky!). I cant attach it as it's too big. I havent found James or Janet's death certs as yet as Im trying to go back in time i that makes sense.
I know James is my ancestor, a weaver from Avondale b. 1796 who came to Airdrie and became a Town Councillor. No idea why he came to Airdrie though I know he was a member of the Anderston Weaver's Society.
So it's James senior I'm really trying to find. I think there will be town records too though I guess Ill have to visit personally to see those.
There was a story that one of my grandfather's ancestors (James?) was the first Bailey of Airdrie though I can't find any proof of this as yet so may be a family legend!

You really need to find death certificate for James to get his parents names before you can go further back ...
