Birth/Baptism of Joseph Newington abt 1772 Ticehurst
« on: Monday 06 March 17 13:51 GMT (UK) »
The  roll of the Royal College of Physicians of London: Continued to 1993 and the County Genealogies: Pedigrees of the Families in the County of Sussex by William Berry contain a number of pedigrees one of which is for the Newington line.

I have been confirming the accuracy of the Newington pedigree and in most instances the pedigree has proved accurate.

Joseph Newington is shown to be a son of Samuel Newington [1739 - 1811] surgeon of Ticehurst & Martha Playsted [1730 - 1831] of Wadhurst.

Samuel & Martha married 28 Oct 1761 Jevington, Sussex.

Their son Joseph married 21 Jun 1796 Parnel Taylor in Rochester.  Joseph's Will is published in 1844 and makes mention of his wife Parnel so I'm sure I have the right person.

Newspaper reports of his death state he was in his 74th year making a birth abt 1772.  His siblings were born Ticehurst.

Fingers crossed.  ;D

Thanks Emeltom.

Yes the Weald has a fair bit however it is said there Joseph was baptised/born abt 1769.  That age doesn't tally with his stated age at death.

The reference for the date was the IGI but I have not been able to replicate the result.  This may well be related to the users flaws rather than the provided date and maybe someone else will be able to locate what I am unable?

Thanks Trish.

Joseph was born in Ticehurst and you are correct in that he went to Burwash.

There is a Josiah Newington, son of Samuel & Martha Newington, baptised in Ticehurst 22 Aug 1770.

This is only a transcript - I'll try to look at the original.

Ages can be unreliable, especially when the person giving the information mis-remembers.  :-\

Nell

Added: the original definitely says Josiah.  And he was buried on 2 Nov 1770  :(

Hello Nell,

Samuel Newington & Martha Playsted had at least 15 children two of whom were Josiah & Joseph.   ;D

Thanks so much. :)
