John Baker - Father of Frederick Baker
« on: Thursday 09 March 17 12:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I am after some help, I have been trying to follow my family tree as back as far as I can and have done better than I thought I would but have now got the bug and have come a bit stuck.

I have managed to get a certain way back and now am only going sideways (which has been interesting and brought up some good stories) but any help on the next stage, some information or pointers would be great.

What I have so far on the "Baker" line;

John Baker (? - ?)

father of

Frederick Baker (1858 - 1903)

father of

Harry Aubrey Baker (1882 - 1934)

I can go back further all the way to myself (John would have been my 4x Great Grandfather) I also have all Fredericks siblings and marriage but its more information about John and to go back further I am after.

He was a Cattle Drover I believe and all these people where from London area (perhaps into Herts)

Any info would be great, many thanks in advance.

James

Hallo, James - and a warm welcome to Rootschat.

Have you found Frederick on censuses?  If so, it would be useful to know where his hirthplace was in order to narrow down the search.

If not, do you have the name of Frederick's wife, and where they were married (this would help find them on the 1891 census to see a birthplace)

All the best
Philip

Hi both and thank you for the welcome.

I think that info is correct as I have searched and found the following bits of information.

Frederick Baker age 23 bachelor, coachman, 34 Wall street married Caroline Knight spinster age 21, 34 Wall street
on the 30 Oct 1881
at St John the Baptist, Islington, Middlesex

Frederick Baker Father John Baker. Cattle Drover
Caroline Knight Father David Knight, Labour
witness
David Knight and Mary Field

and

Frederick Baker 35 occ Milk Carrier b Holloway
Carrie 37 b West Ham
Frederick 9 b Islington
Henry 8 b Islington
Louisa 4 b Bromley
Carrie 1 b Bromley
Edith 4 months b Bromley
Residing at 300. St Leonards Road, Bromley, Poplar, London
Census Ref Rg12/325/72/62
Keyboard86

It does get a little complicated as Caroline Baker (ne Knight) married the next door neighbour William Sweatman following Fredericks Death.

It is from these bits of information I have the name John Baker but cannot find anything further.

Thanks,

James

Thank you.

Islington and the date of 1858 is what I have for Frederick.

His mothers maiden name of Layton is something I have not seen but I know nothing more than just the name of John Baker.

If you could find the marriage for Baker/Layton would that then have their parents on it?

That would then take me back even further!!!
