Louis Jensen and Sarah Eleanor Jackson
« on: Saturday 11 March 17 13:25 GMT (UK) »
Louis Jensen was a Danish sailor, merchant service, b Abt 1868 in Copenhagen his father was Soren Jensen ( from marriage certificate )
He was around the South Shields area by 1894 as there is a piece in the shields daily gazette of 31 Dec 1894 about him being robbed of his kit bag when going to join his ship the SS Malabar.
He married Sarah Eleanor Jackson in the registry office South Shields on 6 May 1896. They were around South Shields in the 1901 census and later moved to the Wallsend area, 23 Hunter Street.
They had 4 living children by 1905 the 1905 one being born at Wallsend.
There is then a gap in children and family story is that he didn't settle to life on land and returned to sea.
There is "memory" of a telegram being received to say that he was lost at sea probably around 1911.
Their final child George Jensen was born on 20 Jun 1911 so unless Louis is not the father he must have been alive around 9 months before the birth date.
I can find no record for him being lost at sea and can find no further trace of him.
By the 1911 census Sarah Eleanor ( known as Ellen ) is on her own with the 4 children at Wallsend but not shown as 'widow' the name is given as Johnson - the English version of Jensen.
She married again in 1915 so he must have died by then.
New husband Andrew Whittle Sibbald.
If anyone can help me find out what happened to the Danish seaman Louis Jensen I would be most grateful as our family line grinds to a halt with him.
I know he had a brother called Theador Jensen who remained in Denmark.
Thanks  :)

No deaths at sea that fit?

There is a Louis Johnsen death in Greenwich Mar 1911 age 45 which isn't too far out.  Might be worth checking him out to see if he can be ruled out just in case.

Funny but I can't find the death on the GRO index to check.
