Master mariner records
« on: Wednesday 15 March 17 04:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi people,
It's been a good while since I've done any family history stuff & now just having a little meddle.
I remember seeing records for Master Mariners being mentioned somewhere & would be interested to find out a bit about them.
Can some kind person remind me please?
Many thanks,
Lancs-Lassie

Available on Ancestry.
Look for UK and Ireland, Masters and Mates Certificates, 1850-1927

Or see: http://www.mariners-l.co.uk/UKMasters.html
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Depends on the years you are interested in but also look at Lloyd's Captains Registers 1851-1947 available from London Metropolitan Archives ( Not Guildhall Library) These will give you a persons seagoing career after qualifying as Mate. See this outdated info sheet for a general idea.

Partly indexed to 1911 http://www.history.ac.uk/gh/capintro.htm
