A cheeky request please, photo of a grave, Belfast City Cemetery
« on: Thursday 16 March 17 13:49 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I don't know if its possible but could someone please take a photo of my Great, Great Grandfather's grave for me. My G/G Grandmother and some of their children are also in it.
Its in  Belfast City Cemetery,  K2 343, City Cemetery. William Brown, Diead 1909 aged 66, Elizabeth brown died 1926 aged 78.
I know its a bit cheeky to ask for this, but it would be great if someone could.
Your help and time are appreciated

Cheers, GGYD

Are you sure there is a gravestone to photograph? it's a big cemetery but like many places not everyone could afford to put up headstones.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

GGYD - I have had a quick look in the Belfast City Cemetery burial records online - there are 4 people buried in grave K2 343 and an image of the plot and if there is a headstone can be purchased for £1.50.  As well as your William and Elizabeth Brown, who both lived at 230 Tennent Street, Belfast, there is a Miss Margaret Jane Brown of 82 Tennent Street, Belfast, who died on 01 April 1891, aged 18 years and 3 months. There is also an Alice Brown of 166 West Circular Road, Belfast, who died on 25 August 1955, aged 81 years.  I hope this helps.  Brown1777

If it ever stops raining I may feel up to cycling over there and taking a look.
But I don't like to promise anything.
I'm not too keen on strong winds or icy roads, either!

Hello all, thank you for your responses, all appreciated.
I have looked at the plot record and know who is buried in there and have no idea if there is a stone. I use library computers and my phone and don't wish to purchase things on them, hence my request.
There is no rush at all, just be nice to see where they are laid to rest.
I'm very proud of my Irish side, and know a lot about them.
And I'm still proud of my Irish side, even though they denied England of the Grand slam today ha ha, well done to you!
Thanks all for your time

Elizabeth Brown signed the Ulster Covenant in September 1912 which tells you a little bit about her political views, on Home Rule anyway. You can see her signature on the PRONI Ulster Covenant site (her address was 230 Tennent St):

She signed with Mary Chittick, of the same address, who appears to have been her daughter (judging by the 1911 census).

1901 Census shows William as retired Royal Irish Constabulary and that he was born In County Fermanagh. Family were Church Of Ireland. Brown1777

Were Soldiers stationed in England and elsewhere serving in the British Army who were Irish allowed to sign the Ulster Covenant?
