Son of Samuel Hornblw of Thatcham 1671
« on: Saturday 25 March 17 10:17 GMT (UK) »
I am close to tearing out what little remains of my hair. Can anyone save me from this situation by revealing what is the name of this second Hornblow son. Looking at Thatcham baptisms there appear to be 2 candidates for sons of Roger i.e. Samuel 1663 and Nathaniel 1669. In between there were 2 daughters.
Is anyone convinced that Nathaniel is the second name? I am not sure and don't want to persuade myself that it is just because it suits me.
Many thanks, Toby.

It is worth considering but I had transcribed the word before Samuel as  "sonnes" and still think it is a plural. T

What I have written is what it says.  No second son is named in the small extract you have supplied.

Perhaps post a larger extract with the full line, starting with the line containing Inprimus and continuing to the end of that bequest?

this second Hornblow son.

Do you mean the word/words immediately after Samuel? I don't see any proper name there. As hd86 has said, it says '.......Samuel and his heires....'

Could you please post a larger snip to put things more into context?

Herewith as requested
Help on the next line after "mother" would also be useful.
Thanks, Toby

It definitely says '....sonne.....' in the previous line not 'sonnes'.

...Inprimis I doe will devise and bequeath unto my sonne
Samuel and his heires (after the deceases of my ffather Roger Hornblow
and my Mother) All that Messuage or Tennement with the appurten(a)nces
in Thacham aforesaid now in the Tenure or occupation of the said Roger...

ADDED:  It's just a flourish on the e.  A similar flourish can be seen at the end of the word devise.
