Alexander BIDDLECOMBE, born c1839
« on: Sunday 26 March 17 16:48 BST (UK) »
Hello,

At the Derbyshire General Quarter Sessions on 01/07/1856 Alexander BIDDLECOMBE, age 17, was sentenced to 4 years Penal Servitude for Housebreaking at Eggington.   The full sentence was served at Parkhurst Prison and he was released on 30/06/1860.

In BDM/Census terms Mr. BIDDLECOMBE remains a complete mystery.   Can anyone help please ???

Thank yoiu,

BAC3

It could be this one who appears on census from 1871 -supposedly born Southampton.  The area is about right following a Parkhurst prison sentence

When searching for a surname that could be mistranscribed - use the wild card search facility (ie) search as ale** bid**

Hampshire Advertiser 13 April 1870

report of an Alexander Biddlecombe (painter) breaking and entering into a property

You have been researching prisoners for quite a while now, did you get your PhD  :)

Thank you rosie99,

I had toyed with this "Southampton" BIDDLECOMBE, but there seemed to be no rational explanation between Hampshire and Derbyshire.

However, I have decided that given the total absence of Derbyshire connections I shall contact one of the "Owners" on the Public Member Trees and pose the question.   Wish me luck 8) 8)

Incidentally, the PhD is back on course, after several years resolving funding issues.   Grants, bursaries etc. are not readily available to septuagenarian postgraduates ::)  Nevertheless, it  has been a great experience so far, contacting "convict" descendants and helping to compile Biographies with their help, many, gratefully, through RootsChat.   Over 1,800 completed at the last count out of 4,008 Parkhurst Prison juvenile inmates.

Take care and my thanks once again.

Good Morning,

Sadly, I have not yet had a response to my enquiries to the appropriate "Southampton" Public Member Trees and the possible connection between Derbyshire/Hampshire.
