Mystery place Barmouth

Could any kind person identify the place in this painting by J Carter.  I suspect the unusual round building may be a smoke house.

Good afternoon,

If it wasn't for the fact it has a window and possibly two floors I would have said pottery kiln. It looks very similar to the one on the old site of Henry Watsons pottery in Suffolk.

The range of kitchen ware labelled as "Charlotte Watsons" used to be made there before they relocated to Portugal due to costs.

Many thanks

I Googled Watsons Pottery and it seems we actually have a piece.

I'm not sure how the picture is showing, for some reason it has to be scrolled to see it all. I don't know how that came about.

I feel the cliffs rule out Suffolk and I think it has a Scottish feel about it.

Regards

Michael

It looks coastal. The poles possibly for drying/repairing fishing nets (as well as hanging washing).
The round building could be for drying/curing/smoking fish.
The single storey building is typical of Ireland.

Joseph Carter 1885-1968 was a landscape artist. Quite a lot of his work was of Old St Ives, Cornwall

Nice picture Michael. I'd give that house room.  :)
