Or Larcombe  ;D

Early records are always subject to local accents as many people could not read, write or spell their own name. How do you know that Thomas was born in Somerset, do you have his wife and family in Birmingham.

i found him through descendants of his wifes first marriage, they very thoughtfully included his uncommon name in there forenames.I have him wed in Bristol  in 1835 with 2 step daughters and son by wife Sarah, who must have been a looker as the old boy was 2nd of 3 marriages for her.
He croaked in 1854. now gotta find his parents.
Ta for the thoughts.
Richard.

How Wrong could I be, no closer to finding them at all, Ive failed to find Marriage registration
for Thomas La**** and Ellen Thomas,at Bristol in 1835: which I hoped would yield at least one name for his parents, or witnesses.
'Capetown' found me a Lar**** family which looked a good match age and location wise(On Ancestry and looking for marriages in St Augustine the Less
Elizabeth LARCOMBE (father Elias) married John PETERS: 18 August 1838
marriages in St Augustine the Less, and the family are on the 1841 at Bitton.Elias LARKAM - 80 )
but I cant make him match with Thomas born (in 1804) and marriage with Ellen in 1838.
 So still looking!

"Ive failed to find Marriage certificate for Thomas La**** and Ellen Thomas,at Bristol in 1835: which I hoped would yield at least one name for his parents."

I've posted elsewhere about the marriage - before 1837 and civil registration there will be no certificate, only the Parish register entry which will not name parents; it will have two witnesses (normally) but these may not even be relatives. There seems to be no entry on the BAFHS CDs of baptisms for Thomas, so you may need to look at parishes near the city but not part of it. Most PRs for south Gloucestershire are at Bristol RO, but not all. If you contact Bristol RO they can send you a copy of the marriage (for a charge),
