A change of name is obviously a possibility.

In the 1861 census there's a Thomas Frankford aged 17, born "London Town", an apprentice seaman, on a small ship (the Standard) in Shields harbour. The only other record I can find of him is his apprenticeship to the master of the Standard in 1860. Another mystery - might that be Thomas Cottrell perhaps?

Thanks for looking. If I can get someone who lived in Shoreditch to visit the parish registers for me then I think that's my only hope as they may hold a baptism fir thomas. I live in the North East so it's impossible for me to have a look locally. Xx
