John Mawston and Margaret Froud family bible
« on: Tuesday 18 April 17 18:25 BST (UK) »
There's an article in my local free newspaper about a family bible that's been found in a house in Redcar and an appeal is being made to find its owners. The inscription says that the bible belongs to 'John Mawston and Margaret Froud who married on May 10,1865 in County Durham'. They had children named Mary-Ann, George, Thomas, Isabel, Margaret and Elizabeth. The search has been passed to Finders International, anyone with information is being asked to contact them. I'm not sure if Rootschat will allow me to post the email address but it's on their website.

I've tried to provide a link to the article but the latest edition of the newspaper doesn't seem to be online yet. This link will take you to the home page:

I'd love to know if this finds any success through Rootschat.  :)

Don't know if this would help but there are 3 people on Ancestry with a family tree with this couple, for  some unknown reason Ancestry then becomes unavailable, where they are working on it or not I do not know, will try to access it later if possible unless anyone else can

Thanks Louisa Maud, that would be really helpful.  :)  I'd love to see the family bible being claimed by the descendants.  :)

Strange this is on 2 of the trees I can access it only shown birth dates and census only up to 1881 for all of the family

1891 RG12/4107 folio 76 page 7 shows
George Mawston aged 27
Mary Ann 25
Isabella 17
Elizabeth 14

Margaret had died before 1891

all living on a farm, I do wonder if their mother might have died as she surely would have been with the daughters

PS, just found mother's death 1891 aged  49, so this family were all orphans

The article did say that both John and Margaret were from farming families so that fits.

The latest edition is now online, it's on page 23. It takes a minute or two to load:

sadly I can't  find anything that pops out at me, possible marriages might be a good idea but I don't live within the Easington/Durham areas to look at their local record office. I hope someone comes up with something concrete and this family bible can be handed on

My grandmother kept a family bible where it listed  at least 14 of her children, sadly that went awol and no one knew where it went,

I will look from time to time to see if anything comes up
