Looks like there is no facility for attachments on PMs.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

Exchange email addresses with the recipient, and send them that way.

As KG says, there isn't a way which is a pity, but I presume there is a reason why it can't be done.

I think you can do it if you use photo sharing sites like Flickr, Photobucket, etc.  by using a hyperlink - but, as has been said, it's easier to share images via e-mail.
