Does anyone what what a Spint Shopman does?
« on: Wednesday 26 April 17 12:16 BST (UK) »
I have an ancestor in Scotland and in the 1871 census his occupation is down as Spint Shopman, does anyone know what this is. In later census's he is down as a Spirit salesman, I thought I may be a spelling mistake but would just like to make sure.

I would suggest that it is a bad transcription and it should be spirit in both! Some one has taken the r and i and read them as n.

Hi Guys thanks for your input, I am leaning towards Spirit Shopman, knowing my fathers side of the family it seems more obvious.
