Duplicate family!
« on: Thursday 27 April 17 00:03 BST (UK) »
Hello!  I wonder if you could help me with my research? My Dad's family resided in Lancashire and his father was James Myers Wainwright b. 1847, his mother Anne or Annie b. 1846.  The confusing bit is there seems to be a similar family in the same area named James Wainwright born in the same year with a wife with the same name born in the same year as Anne but they are different families as they have different named children I think.  The clues I keep getting from the family tree sites seem to be for both families so are confusing me.  James Myers Wainwright's father is John Wainwright but I can't find a date of birth or any information about him, he was married to Elizabeth Myers b. 1811 and there is a little information on her but not much.  Could you help me clarify the correct family and their parents.
 :)

Hi

Start with what you know is correct - usually the child you are descended from.  Ignore what you have seen on other trees and work with your own information/findings

Please give us details of your father - name/birthplace/birthyear

That would mean your father was born in the 1870's or thereabouts.

Whereabouts in Lancashire?

The family seems to have been fairly settled in St Helens (Prescot reg district).

The first child of James and Ann that I can see is John James Wainwright, birth reg Jun qtr 1867 Prescot with mother's maiden name Starkey.

Then further Wainwright/Starkey births in Prescot:

1868: William (died 1870 aged 1)
1873: William (died 1874 aged 1)
1875: William (baptised as William Myers Wainwright)
1877: Annie
1881: Margaret

They also had a daughter Mary, aged 3mo in the 1871 census and still with them aged 10 in 1881, whose birth registration I cannot trace.  She may have died in 1883 aged 13.

Thanks so much for your replies so far.  Sorry, I meant to say my Father's father was William Myers Wainwright b. Prescot, Lancs 1876-1918 his father being James Myers Wainwright b.1847.  His 3 children William Myers Wainwright 1876, Annie b. 1878 and Margaret A b. 1881.  The other (wrong) family were as follows:- James Wainwright who also resided in Prescot Lancashire - their children being John James b. 1867 and Mary b. 1871.

Have you looked at the census records  that I posted and searched the GRO indexes for WAINWRIGHT births with mother's maiden name STARKEY?

So what do you think is going on here then?

1881
St Helen's, Sutton, Lancashire

James WAINWRIGHT, Head, Married, 34, General Labourer
Ann, Wife, 35
John James, Son, 14
Mary, Dau, 10
William, Son, 5
Anne, Dau, 3
Margaret, Dau, 3 months

All born St Helens.
