Might be Gordon Highlanders but need second opinion. Might not be regular battalion, collar badge and leather belt with serpent clasp not recognised. Not even sure a red coat. I think early 1900's.

Welcome to Rootschat, lack of response is probably due to our inability to answer your  question.

He looks to be wearing grenade collar dogs of a fusilier, but I can't match them with the two black tassels or the cantle of the sporran, so I have to admit defeat. Hopefully someone will manage to come up with the answers you are looking for.

Unfortunately the cantle is a different shape.

I think this is a tricky one, I am not up on Scottish uniforms,  but I do know that the different cantles and tassels are significant. Nothing I can find seems to match up. :'( :'( :'(

I would say he is a bandsman, Royal Highland Fusiliers circa 1900/1920. Probably militia battalion.

That sounds a lot closer if not it, John.

RHF only dates from 1959 doesn't it and then someting happened in 2006. Convoluted history. Way beyond me.
