wow cando,

That was a long time ago I posted that.  I forgot about it.

I'm just waiting on the historian now from Melbourne Water to get back to me about the accident.

Are there any directories around like the Ballieres that cover 1940's ?
GOLDSWORTHY / TREMAYNE & variations / UREN & variations / BOWDEN  / SIRL in Cornwall
HOOPER in London
FRIEZER / FRIESER in England, Indonesia and Netherlands

JAMIESON / RENNIE or RANIE / EDMONDSON / CAMERON in Scotland
DOWNING / McKEOWN / MILLS / HANES and WYLIE in Ireland
McKEOWN in NY and Boston / RAPSEY in New Zealand
and many many more.  These are just the main ones

Sands & McDougall directories however only the owner or occupier of a property was listed. Postal directories also but once again not all occupiers of a property were listed.  I tend to use the electoral rolls to locate people in that era and they were not always accurate and up to date.   Occupations are not updated unless the elector specifically requested a change.

I apologise for writing that your father doesn't appear to have been married as in 1954 there was a female enrolled to vote at the same address in East Warburton.

Hi again Cando,

What you found on the electoral roll is correct for my Grandparents.

Unfortunately I can't find the house in Northcote but I do remember the house in Sherbourne Rd. Montmorency.

When my Grandfather owned it, he had chook pens out the back.  My Grandmother was allergic to chook feathers though.

I don't remember Nanna living there as she was living with her daughter.

But I remember Pa had boxes and boxes and boxes of school chalk stored in the chook pens.  I also remember trying to catch the skinks and their tails kept falling off.
It's funny what you remember at times.

Joan Grant HOOPER, Home duties

There is no 72 Gladstone Avenue today.....appears to have been merged with 70 to enable a bigger home to be built using both allotments.  Just my opinion.

Hi Cando,

Yes, Joan was my Mum.

I looked on google maps and couldn't find the house unfortunately.

Now I have to investigate where they lived in East Warburton.
