Emma Clara burden
« on: Thursday 04 May 17 13:34 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to find more on Emma Clara Burden. She was born in England in 1881. The only US record I can find is from New York  the death of a child Dorothy May  Scott. The record states a husband/ father as Ernest Scott also from England. There is nothing in U.K. record to suggest they married here or died here. I'd love to know what happened to her and when she died.

I'm wondering if something happened to Emma & Ernest?

This appears to be Dorothy in the 1920 census. She is listed as "ward" with both parents born in England. There is also a Herbert listed who appears to be her brother.

1920 census: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJY2-8QQ

Herbert listed as boarder with same family in 1930.

1930 census: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X4KL-NZM

Thank you
Dorothy died in 1924 aged only 13 so I do wonder. I also wonder if Emma and Ernest were actually married as Emma left two illegitimate children back in England (one of whom is my great grand father).  It's always been a mystery as to what happened to her.

There is a Social Security application for Herbert Patrick Scott born 3 Oct. 1912 in New York, New York.  Parents listed as Ernest Scott and Emily S. Burden.  He died 13 Nov. 1996.

Here he is on the Social Security death index - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JT1M-TNL

And his burial - https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=174718279

And a mention of him in the US Public Records database - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KKJB-VV3

Not heard of any records of flu pandemic.

This is probably the wife of Herbert Patrick Scott - Doris Scott who also lived at 2793 Batchelder St, Brooklyn, NY.  Born 25 July 1914 - passed away 7 October 1998
U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007 - Doris Crook Scott - 25 july 1914 East Orange New Jersey - Father - Albert Crook - Mother Anna Davies.

Doris Crook with parents and siblings - 1930

There is an Episcopal baptism for Dorothy May Scott on 23 Jun 1911.  She was born May, 1911.  The location is listed as Bellevue, A5.  Bellevue is a hospital in Manhattan.  Her parents were listed as Ernest and Emily Scott.  The sponsor's name was Miss Silver or Silner, and the minister's name looks like Thos. Worrall or Morrall.
