Spanish Catholic names
« on: Monday 08 May 17 14:18 BST (UK) »
If you think that the use of names such as Faith, Hope, Charity, Patience, Mercy and so on might be burdensome to children, spare a thought for Catholic girls.  Looking through baptism records in 1850s Peru I have found (among others):
Maria Trinidad
Maria Natividad
Maria de la Cruz
Maria Pasion
Maria Visitacion
Maria de Jesus
Maria de la Virgen
Maria Concepcion
Maria Circuncision

Ouch!  Imagine being named Mary Circumcision  ???

They refer to Catholic holydays.  The one that amuses you was on 1st January.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.
