Could someone tell me where the records are held for West Ham when it was in Essex before becoming a London borough.

They are at Chelmsford record office & can be accessed through Seax. Some marriages & baptisms have been transcribed you can search on FreeReg.

When I worked at Newham Libraries ?40? odd years ago they were very proud of their local history source material.  It's worth checking to see what they do hold

Thank you for your replies.

I'm looking for the details of the marriage between Harry Palfrey and Ada Williams in West Ham in 1918 Ada's father's name is Arthur and her age should be about 36 Harry's age is about 38 but I don't know his father's name.

They didn't marry in a c of e church in West Ham. Maybe another parish in the West Ham registration district?

Do you have any idea where either of them were born or where they had been living prior to the marriage?

If they married in a Register Office, then only the Marriage Certificate will hold the details.

Ada was born in Edmonton in 1881 as Ada Aylott she married William Williams in 1901 in the 1911 census they are living at 54 Stockdale Road Battersea.

When Ada and Harry marry in 1918 his name is Harry Palfrey when he dies in 1938 in East Ham his name is Henry age 58 that's all I know about him.
