John Paul Metcalf born c1908 in North London

Hi

I am trying o help a friend find the birth of his Granddad John Paul Metcalf who died around 2000 aged 92. He married a Gladys Coventry in 1939 in the Edmonton RD, which would have made him 31 when he married.

I found a John P Metcalfe with an E born 1908 which would fit and I wondered if someone with access to Census Records might be able to find this man and let me know who his parents were.

Do you know if he had a younger brother Sidney James?

There is a birth for him in Islington Mar 1910 mothers maiden name Syrett.

Having trouble finding the one for John Paul to cross check 

The marriage certificate for John to Gladys should give his fathers name otherwise it's a bit stab in the dark.

Somebody born 1908 would only be on the 1911 census and Rootschat does not allow info to be posted

You can now obtain his mothers maiden name using the info from freebmd and the GRO website

The only John Paul Metcalf death I can find was 6.2.2005 Enfield Middlesex and he was born 20.11.2013 so was 91

Something a little odd about it I think - there is a note that the birth was registered late and a corresponding entry in 1928 

Possibly parents married after he was born?  Mothers name Triplow.

However that could be John Philip Metcalfe Triplow born Islington 1908 and not your John Paul at all although the names are rather similar.
Not sure.

Gladys Nora Coventry (Metcalf) was born 26.7.1915 and died 23.2.2007 Enfield.  She also left a will

Have you looked for them on the 1939 register as they were married by then

I dont have access to the 1939 Register, but I did see in the Findmypast list a John Paul in Tottenham wondered if either of you could check and find any other occupants of the house as I wondered if they might be living with his parents.

Unfortunately we are not able to conduct 1939 look ups.

However by doing a free search on the 1939 you will be able to see that there is a Gladys N Metcalf born 1915 living in Tottenham with Arthur C Coventry and 5 more people, 1 more person's record is closed.

Having played around with the above details there is a John P Metcalf born 1913 living in Tottenham with Arthur C Coventry  and 5 more people, 1 more person's record is closed.

So this should be your John P Metcalf but recording his birth year as 1913.
