Need help with finding a headstone location?
« on: Monday 15 May 17 23:18 BST (UK) »
I'm new to RootsChat and have a question...
I am going to Glasgow in two weeks and know that my 4x Great-Grandfather is buried in Southern Necropolis. How would I go about finding where exactly he is buried? I know I can go to the Glasgow City Archives, but as my time is very limited in Glasgow, I wondered if there is a way to get this information without actually going to the archives.

The name is George Murdison, he died on Jan 17, 1859 in Glasgow. His death certificate lists Southern Necropolis as the place of his burial.

Any help would be immensely appreciated!  :)

Hi there mjanich

Have you tried the website for the cemetery? They may have a database.

I did check the site, but unfortunately don't see his name on there.  :-\

Hi MJ.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page on the link from Chris there's a form for Comments/Questions which you can fill in with all known facts for your query.

I would put as much info. as you know with name/dates (of his birth & death)/wife/parents/children as he may be in a plot with others & the more info. you supply the more likely they will get back to you asap.

Good luck!
