'Mum Mary or Margaret dad James. '

May be a reference to the baptism of Charles Henry Clark, 12 June 1867, Macclesfield St Michael.
Perhaps there was some creativity with the facts there.

1871 census, Macclesfield, has Charles Clarke, 3, with grandparents Joseph + Maria. There is a daughter Margaret in the household.
could be . Clue ancestry has here age out five years on some records found her listed 48 53 birth year. .

There's a baptism at Macclesfield St Paul, 5 October 1851
Margaret, Daughter of Joseph + Maria Clarke
abode Water Coates
father a Weaver

Possible marriage for her, 23 Dec 1873, at Prestbury
George Hayes, 26, Bachelor, Stonemason, residence Kerridge, father George Hayes, Stonemason
+
Margaret Clarke, 23, Spinster, residence Macclesfield, father Joseph Clarke, Weaver
witnessed by Joseph Clarke, Sarah Jackson

After that, I'm not sure what happened to her.
The baptism in Macclesfield, 12 June 1867 -
name - Charles Henry
parents James + Margaret Clark (writing for Margaret is faded at the end, but looks like that is what it says)
abode Macclesfield
father a Cotton Spinner
