« on: Monday 29 May 17 02:39 BST (UK) »
Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on seeking out old shipping/mariner info?
In particular I'm looking for old english stuff.
To be more particular, Im looking for info on the Brigantine Frederick, sailed out of Trondheim on june 23, 1778, captained by my ancestor Thomas Reed

There are a few references to a Brigantine Prince Frederick around this time I think captured by the Americans, including this one

If you do a google search there are a number of references.

Unfortunately the two publications which may have given you some basic information, namely Lloyd's Listand Lloyd's Register of Shipping are not available on line for the year 1778.
The minimum information that would be needed to make a serious search is the ships port of registration. Do you have any idea of the vessels home port?
I have attached links to Lloyd's List and Lloyd's Register for the nearest years to 1778.

It would be worthwhile to post on the link given by chempat if you have the vessels POR.
