John Dodd, Druggist Chester
« on: Friday 02 June 17 15:21 BST (UK) »
Hello, i am trying to look for details on John Dodd.
I have 3 baptism records for children of John Dodd & Mary. All the records are for St Oswald in Cheshire & say that John is a Druggist from Northgate Street.
The children are
John 1819
William 1821
George 1822
looking at records, i can see a John Dodd of Northgate St in 1841 who is a School Master, news paper records 1806 John Dodd Northgate St flour dealer, 1851 Johnn Dodd  Northgate St confectionery manufacturer, I can't find any mention of a druggist though. Can anyone see if they can find him?

I have another link on the Dodd's here regarding William Dodd & his family missing in census returns. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=772212.msg6251376#msg6251376
but it won't apply to this.
Byrne, Butterfield, Gilbert, Sutcliffe, Furey, Alderson, Warham, to name a few!

Have you looked at any other children closer to 1841. I notice there's an Eliza b. 1829.

On John Dodd's son John's Baptism record 15th April 1819 it has fathers profession as Schoolmaster but this has been crossed out and Druggist put instead. Also Son George's record has him as a Druggist.
On the Marriage record dated 19/2/1808 St John the Baptist Chester, it states John Dodd Druggist of the Parish of St Oswald a Bachelor to Mary Kirkam spinster. The witnesses are Thomas & Richars Kirkam.
No luck with finding them on the 1941 Census, sorry  :-\ There is a  Dodd family with John Dodd the Schoolmaster with wife Mary perhaps he changed his profession.

Attached is a link for the Poll-Book, dated October 1818, listing the names of all freemen in Chester who voted for the Mayor. The candidates were Mr George Wildig and John Dodd (not your John Dodd!).

If you look at the list of voters then you will see John Dodd, Druggist, Northgate Street, who cast his vote for Wildig!

Hi
Have you tried the local papers?
I found my druggist relative mentioned as being one of the places to buy the advertisers' patent medicines.

I wasn't sure on this one as father is listed as a school master. It seems a huge change to go from druggist to school master!
