Baton or beton
« on: Monday 05 June 17 14:47 BST (UK) »
Is there any chance a 'e'could be mistaken as 'a', I have a birth certificate for my 3rd great grandad, his mothers maiden name says baton, but I can't find any info on a Baton on Ancestry.
Mothers name: Mary Ann Baton
Fathers Name:Henry Browning occupation a Jewel Case Maker
I can find loads of info on a Henry Browning and a Mary Ann Beton I can not be sure if it the same person the Henry has the same occupation which is the only reason why I'm thinking its beton rather than baton on the birth certificate.

It looks like Beton. Compare with the 'e'  in formerly.

An 'a' or an 'e' would only be a minor anomaly anyway if all the other information fits.  :) The spoken word can be interpreted in many ways depending on many factors.
