Trying to find cremation or burial - Bidford on Avon 1943
« on: Tuesday 06 June 17 11:06 BST (UK) »
My husband's grandfather, Henry Marston Layard Crawford died in Bidford on 1st June 1943.  I have his history, census information and his death certificate but have been unable to locate a burial or cremation record for him.  He was the local GP and the Crawford Memorial Hall was built in his honour.  Anyone able to point me in the right direction of how I find out where he was buried or cremated?
many thanks in advance

Have you tried the local newspaper.  I know it was obviously wartime, but as the local GP and someone who was well thought of, I would expect to see something in the newspaper.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Yes I have the newspaper cutting - it says "funeral private - no flowers".  Obituary doesn't mention it either.

Thought I’d suggest looking to see where his wife Muriel was buried but her death 1962 is registered in Chard Somerset, 1962 probate address Toad Hall Buckland St Mary Chard Somerset

You probably have this but just in case...

Muriel CRAWFORD
Death year   1962
Denomination   Church of England St Mary Buckland
Inscription   Headstone
Muriel, wife of Dr: H.M. CRAWFORD, of Bidford-on-Avon (Warwickshire), and sister of
Lt: Col: J.C. PRINGLE, R.E., 1882 - 1962
Reference   48-43
Record set   Somerset Monumental Inscriptions (Full)

1943 Probate gives Henry's address The Cockpit Bidford-upon-Avon Warwickshire

Perhaps you could locate the nearest Cemeteries and Crematoriums to that address and send them an email

Don't know if this will be of any help but here’s a list of Warwickshire Cemeteries & Crematoria
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/WAR/warcem

ADDED

His death registered in Alcester - perhaps worth a try

Not sure if this link might be helpful www.worcestershire.gov.uk -
search box Alcester cemeteries and crematoria  - there’s a pdf file you can download

thank you- yes, I had all of that information.  My hope was that someone would know which cemetery or crematorium was the usual one for Bidfordians.  I guess I'll just have to start contacting them one by one
thanks anyway
