Can't find 2 baptisms in Dorset -FOX
« on: Thursday 08 June 17 11:20 BST (UK) »
Dear all,

You gave me great help a few days ago but now I really am stuck. I am trying to find 2 baptisms in Dorset:

1) Hamilton Fox - I can find him in the 1851 Census in Minterne Magna as a 9 year old, which has him living with his mother Elizabeth aged 33 from Salisbury, Wilts. Says he came from Minterne. Died in Melcolme Horsey 13 June 1857
2) William George Fox. Most Census I can find him in (he's a son of the Elizabeth Fox above) suggest he was born 1858 in Dorchester. In 1861, William by then is living in Lambeth with Elizabeth aged 2 -1861 Census which states he was born in "Erne" in Dorset. Where is his Birth Cert or baptism?

Any help would be much appreciated

Keith

Could this be him - Hamilton George Fox baptised Yeovil 12 Jan 1842 parents George and Elizabeth.

Sounds right, I remember your other topic - father a basket maker
address Middlemarsh Minterne Magna

Was Elizabeth maiden name Fenton?

I think there was a problem finding the other one William George - hadn't George senior died by then?

I see that Hamilton George Fox, aged 10, was committed to Dorset County Gaol on 4 September 1852 for stealing potatoes. He was released on 2 October.

Thank you all so much for info so far. Great stuff on Hamilton George Fox and yes, I did think his father was George, a basketmaker too. Its a surprise to see them in Yeovil.

What about William George Fox-anything?

You are all amazing!

I think we got stuck on William George - at least I did!

When was Elizabeth widowed?  If it was before WG was conceived then he had a different daddy and we might not find who that was.

Thanks AVM, yes, I had found that.

I suspect but haven't confirmed it anywwhere but believe that George Ox, William George Fox's father, died 1859/1860
