James Duffin
« on: Thursday 08 June 17 16:23 BST (UK) »
To go on from my previous topic on George Duffin which was completely wrong and his son William Leader Duffin which was also completely wrong the correct person was William Duffin whose parents I am trying to find.

The facts i know are that on William's marriage certificate to Sarah Blakesley on 8/6/1840 in Southwark Willam states that his father's name is John this I believe is not his correct name.

William was born 4/7/1819 and was baptised along with his brother James ( who was born 24/11/1821) on 18/5/1823 at St Saviour's Southwark on the baptism record their fathers name is James which I believe James would have given to the register along with his occupation Currier and his wife's name of Mary whereas on the marriage certificate I believe William has given the name he calls his father.

Would anyone be able to give me anymore information on James and Mary.

Also are there any sites that you can go to baptism's put in a district and surname and a start and finish date and any names under that surname will appear.

Ancestry has a Mary Ann Duffin baptised 20 Nov 1814 St Saviour Southwark to James & Mary but just a transcription so can't see any other details.

Buried 21 Oct 1817.

Caroline Duffin. b 1845, Blackfriars.
William Duffin. b 1847, St Pancras.

I think you may have the marriage wrong,

Sarah Blakesley married John Duffy in 1840, Southwark.

Thank you, solidrock, for your reply.

William Duffin, born 4/7/1819, Southwark, married Sarah Jane Elizabeth Blakesley, baptised 28/10/1817, Tipton, Staffs, on the 8/6/1840, at St. John the Evangelist, Lambeth.

William's fathers name is John, but as I state earlier in this post  I believe it is James, his occupation is a Currier in the leather industry.

Sarah's father is Joseph, he is a compositor.

As you show in the 1851 census, Sarah's place of birth is Shrewsbury, but in the 1861 and 1871 census it is Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Given how uncommon the name is, it is of interest that there is a burial for a Felix Duffin, c.1768, buried at St George in the East, 31 Jan 1819.

This is also a more common name in Irish records, so maybe RC and may be why it is so hard to fing any possible marriage and births records for James.
