James Burden Born 1847
« on: Saturday 10 June 17 03:48 BST (UK) »
Need help to find where and when James came to South Australia. He married Bridget Ward in 1869 and marriage cert says he was 22 years of age. His father's name was John. They were married at St Patricks Church Adelaide and their residence address was Hamilton which is about 120KMS north east of Adelaide. He died in 1888 at Paratoo. His wife Bridget came out from Ireland with her sister Elizabeth in 1866.
Hope someone can help me with this.

That maybe the correct person. I have been looking at a James in Dorset and what makes me think it is correct that he named children after his parents and siblings.  I know it is a long bow but thanks very much for your help.

His arrival is noted as James BURDEN
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article31851482

The entry in BISA has no more than is shown on the passenger list.

Listing at SA Records
https://www.archives.sa.gov.au/content/our-catalogue
Burdin  1865         James 65/6   14

Always errors in paper based records.

Yes they may well have but errors occur in paper based records.  How often do we see and 'i' for an 'e' and vice versa.  I can find no further information on a James BURDIN in SA records.

The records as SA Records will probably have the same spelling ie with an I instead of an E.

I have a number of my own SA resources and seeing all the BURDEN/ BURDIN/BURDON deaths shows how easily errors may occur eg the only and only BURDIN death shows a BURDEN father ::) ::)  However deaths to 1915 only a James BURDEN and that appears to be yours in 1888.

Because of the spelling error in the Assisted Passengers records and possibly where the shipslist data was sourced, no further information has been entered on BISA. If the spelling had been correct it would have shown the marriage to Bridget and their children's births.

I doubt you will be able to 'prove' it is the same person.  I very strongly suspect it is.

Good luck
