Three children. How old is these pictures and the children in them?

How old do you think these pictures are? And what ages do you think the children in them might be? I would be grateful for any ideas, especially about when these were taken. Looking at the numbers, the pics were clearly taken at the same time. The family is probably related to the Humfrey family.

The photos were probably taken by Joseph Brandebourg who was (at least) active in the years 1895 - 1903 and probably longer. His address from 1900 is recorded as 14 St Werburgh Street, Chester. One of his photos with the same address as this photo (38 bridge street) was taken in 1895. So I'm guessing about 1895 +/- 5 years.

I'm hopeless at guessing ages but I'd put them at roughly 9, 12 and 15

Mike

Hi,

There is an entry in 1896 Kelly's Directory that might narrow it down,

Chester
BRANDEBOURG Joseph, photographer,  38 Bridge street

In 1891 Joseph is living in Holdenhurst, Hampshire, then in 1901 Joseph is living at 5 Newry Park, Chester.

Hope that helps :)

Regards,
Daisy

Hi, Simsam. My age estimate is 'way different to Mike's but for what it's worth I would have said about 4, 6 and 8 years. Cheers, Peter.

My thoughts on their ages: 5, 7 and 10.

My exact guestimate before reading others.

Simsam,

If the family were Catholic may have been Holy Communion photos?

I am thinking the photos were all taken on the same day. The serial numbers on the back are close to consecutive.

They are siblings I  believe

The younger girl is wearing the bonnet of the elder girl.

The ribbons are not tied in the enormous bow because possibly it was considered a distraction from her small face.
