Professor Rebecca Probert is the leading authority on the historical aspects of marriage and related themes. In this talk she'll explore how easy (or difficult) it was to end a marriage by obtaining a divorce at different periods. She'll also look at the longevity of marriages, how the law dealt with disappearing spouses, and the extent to which individuals resorted to bigamy.
