Is this a Yorkshire inventory?

If so I suspect I suspect maynor/menor might be manure  :D

Hello Arthurk & JenB

Yes it is a Yorkshire inventory - West Riding. And that was my post but this is another inventory.

I think you are right about the manure and turf. Strange, wouldn't have thought manure would be on an inventory.

Can't image why manure would have so much value. I suppose the manure was an important fertiliser on the poor soils of intakes.

I think they called peat turf and it was used as fuel in fire places.

Thank you for your help

Warm Regards

I also have a West Yorkshire inventory in which manure holds monetary value!  From the 1700s.

I hold it as worth something right now for my garden!!  ;D ;D

Manure was a valuable commodity! I have transcribed many farm inventories and manure was frequently included.
There is a whole section on its value here (you need to scroll down a fair way) http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/woodboroughheritage/historyoffarmingbypetersaunders.html

Manure/dung/etc was very valuable in farming communities!

My 3 x great grandfather from Kirkcudbrightshire had a big row about 'dung'  when his lease came to be renewed. I have copies of numerous letters about said dung and how much it was worth!

Cow dung mixed with straw and a bit of water was used as a building material in what we know as "wattle and daub" buildings.

Also dried cow pats could be used for the fire instead of peat.
