Bridget Leary of Peckham
« on: Tuesday 04 July 17 21:48 BST (UK) »
According to the census records of 1881-1911;

Bridget Leary
b1859 in Peckham.
d 1914 in Camberwell.

She married a Timothy McAuliffe in 1878 in the Camberwell registration district.

Can you help me find her on the census in 1861 or 1871?

On the GRO Index i have found this...

LEARY, BRIDGET
Mother's Maiden Name: CRONAY
GRO Reference: 1859 S Quarter in OF CROYDON Volume 02A Page 189

But then i can not find a marriage between a Leary and a Cronay.

Can anyone help me push this family further back?

Many Thanks!

On 1861 and 1871 as O'Leary ;D

Parents: Michael O'Leary (b Cork, Ireland) and Johana O'Leary (b Ireland)

It was relatively common for people of Irish origin to drop the "O'".

What does the marriage certificate say about her father?

Ive just spotted a Bridget O'Leary born in 1860 in Wandsworth on FreeBMD. Is this the wrong family?

Bridget'sbirth was registered in the Wandsworth Registration District.
That RD contained the parish of Battersea, as well as Clapham, Putney, Streatham, Tooting Graveney and Wandsworth itself.

On both the 1861 and 1871 censuses, Bridget's place of birth is Battersea.

I only mention it because theres a Bridget Leary born 1859 in the Croydon district. Surname spelt correctly, and year closer to my ancestor in later life?
