He was a tenant farmer at Hyde Hall Estate, Denton per ads for the sale of the estate in September 1886.

There are newspaper references after that to a George Enoch Morgan, farmer at Lea Hall, Ash near Whitchurch, up to March 1889, including the death of a daughter Bessie in 1888. .

MaureeninNY,
Where exactly in England is this Spread Earle, may I ask?  Many thanks for unearthing this, too...
Keith

In a report in the  Warrington Guardian - Saturday 20 October 1877 where Morgan of the Spread Eagle was charged with permitting drunkenness on his premises, it states that Mrs. Morgan, his mother was in charge of the house, and he was at Fodsham arranging for his removal to that place.

Wonderful that, Stan, with the zoom and everything.  So Hyde Hall is still in the Lancs/Cheshire area, so therefore before Debden in Essex...
Ah, and now I see that ShaunJ is on the trail too - many thanks Shaun for all those spots...
And thanks Maureen for letting me know that Lymm was the location for The Spread Eagle.  So he had already started to diversify in how he earned his living before he moved down to Essex/Cambs.  All very interesting...

...and it looks as though my memory must be going, as I really cannot remember looking this family up 7 years ago.  Thanks for putting me on the straight and narrow, Shaun!  I'd better go and have a lie down...

Child Joseph was born abt 1890 in Whitchurch so that might have been another move between Denton and Cambridge.
Odd re Debden - when could they fit it in  :D

Poor Mary - all those children and all those moves!

.

That will be their sojourn at Lea Hall, Ash.

I wonder if the reporter has misheard or mistranscribed "Denton".
